Parvin Butte Controversy

Parvin Butte stands overlooking Dexter and Dexter Lake in Oregon.
Recently, a controversy has come up because of logging and mining on the butte.
The picture on this website shows what is happening to Parvin Butte - http://savedexter.com/parvin-butte.php
My photo was shot from across the lake.

A very beautiful area.

It's a real shame that they are destroying it. But if it's in private hands, there isn't a lot anyone can do, short of buying it and preserving it. All that cost a lot of money.

If it were in Ohio, it'd be the tallest point of land we had!

Stopping the destruction now is like locking the barn door after the horses got out! It's way too far gone. This has been happening in W. Va. for many years. Mountain top mining is a horrible thing to do.

Looks great from this angle; good shot.

This looks a bit like pics shot along the Rhine in Germany.

I remember seeing so much of that when I would visit my daughter who used to live in Portland..just terrible!

An absolute shame...nice shot Vern!

Nicely composed image. I hope they can save it.

It is easy to say that they should not spoil the landscape with the logging however those earning a living working on the project may have a totally different point-of-view. It is a pretty place.

Love the pretty mountain and image!

It looks great on this side, and really ugly on the other side. Sure is a beautiful capture with the lake and boats in the foreground.

Thanks for capturing perhaps the last good photo of this natural structure. It appears the vulture capitalists (they call themselves, Makers) are well on their way to making it history.
Long Bach Nguyen03-Dec-2012 05:39
That is terrible...I have seen lots of destruction from the air over the years

Bad things sadly happening too often and in too many places nowadays..V.

What a beautiful animal. Lets kill it. Ohhhh, look at that butte. Lets tear it down. What a funky old neighborhood. Lets "revitalize it." Profit trumps quality of life every time. Most animals have enough sense not to defecate in their nests. I am glad you captured it while it is still there, Vern.
Steve Thuman03-Dec-2012 03:44
It's still pretty from this angle, but from the photo on the website it looks like its too late to keep this butte a beaut.
Hank Vander Velde03-Dec-2012 03:23
Terrible desecration here Vern. I just can't understand these situations being allowed by governments. Surely there must be a more sustainable way.
Carl Carbone03-Dec-2012 03:22
Sad commentary. I hope they can save it.
Paul Milholland03-Dec-2012 03:12
Based on the other photo, it looks like you got it from the side they haven't gotten around to trashing yet. ;-(
Jim Coffman03-Dec-2012 03:02
That is absolutely horrible, what they did to that beautiful place!!
