Northern Flicker

I am pretty sure this is a northern flicker, according to this link - http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Northern_Flicker/id The bird sat on a post long enough for me to get a few shots from the car. I should have used a bit higher shutter speed, because when something like this happens the excitement of the situation can cause one to be less steady. But I was pleased to get some photos.

Nice capture.

Nice looking bird, well caught. The length of beak does indicate it being a pecker.

A very nice shot of it! I have a couple that frequent our feeder in winter, but they are very shy.

A beauty of a shot, Vern! I like how well we can see the tail in addition to everything else. A very nice setting too.

Nice shot, Vern. Beautiful bird. I like the way the post and fence add to the composition.

We have flickers here too. I haven't seen one yet though! Nice picture!

Yes, Roger, a Flicker is in the woodpecker family. This one looks like a Red-Shafted female. God was in a very good mood when he created Flickers. Nice shot, Vern.
