Edenvale Grade school, one room for all eight grades

D3-030509_117.jpg

Would you believe that this is an old one-room schoolhouse, one where I spent the 1st and 2nd grades?
It is true, that was back in 1942 and 1943. The school served all eight grades in the same room.
The old building is on private property now and sits behind the owner's home.
I got a lump in my throat, I have fond childhood memories of living nearby on Edenvale Road, near Jasper, Oregon.

In the early 50s we had church in this school house until we built Jasper Assembly of God on Hills Creek Road

What a special shot this is. It's took bad it hasn't been restored.
Debbie08-Mar-2009 12:49
Oh lets restore it just a little. What a great memory shot. It's been a long time since I was in a one room school house.

Great that is is still standing. There are lots of things we've out-lasted.

How lovely Vern. A pity it's not been restored and brought back to its original condition. Many memories stored in there I bet.
Ed Duverger06-Mar-2009 12:54
It must have been great to go to school in these surroundings.
Barry Ailetcher06-Mar-2009 05:02
Pretty big for a one rood school house good shot my 1st one is 3000 miles east of me
Steve Thuman06-Mar-2009 04:08
I'm guessing it was in better shape when you went there?

What a sweet trip down memory lane! It is a pretty little school house!
Paul Milholland06-Mar-2009 00:16
There's no history plaque saying, "Vern Rogers studied here. . . ."?
Jack Hoying05-Mar-2009 23:55
That's great that it's still standing for you to photograph. Looks like you had plenty of windows to stare out while day-dreaming!
Mark Krauss05-Mar-2009 23:40
A wonderful piece for your memory collection.

Wow, that's a classic! It must have been fun to see your old school "house" again.
Roger Bailey05-Mar-2009 23:16
Nice memories, bet it was in better condition in your day.
Ruth Voorhis05-Mar-2009 23:13
What a poignant experience it must have been, after so many years, to see this picturesque little building that holds so many memories! A lovely image, Vern. Thanks for sharing. There are similar one-room schoolhouses, mostly shown as museums now, on the Manitoba prairies.

Guest 05-Mar-2009 23:02
Very nice Vern! I remember going to a similar school, although it was bigger then yours was.
Guest 05-Mar-2009 22:50
A lovely and obviously a very sentimental image.

What a special picture Vern. Your history with it makes it so. Great exposure too. Look at that green grass! Linda S

What a special photo Vern. It's amazing to think they put eight grades in the one room!
