Clear Lake is in the Cascades about 85 miles east of Eugene, Oregon on Hwy. 126. It is the headwaters of the well-known McKenzie River. There is a small resort and campground there. I hiked around the lake, a distance of over five miles. On the west side of the lake one walks through forests of huge Douglas Fir and on the east side must traverse lava fields. A short portion of the trail on this side is paved. How they got the pavement way back in there in the wilderness I will never know. Here, this time of year, one sees gorgeous fall colors to go with the beautiful blue and green colors of the lake.
