Life on The desert front was a grim affair, rampant flies spreading disease, water & food rationing (particulary bad for the Germans), heat and sand etc. Cuts became infected sores, covered in flies, and the equipment suffered also, with sand destroying & choking mechnical parts.
This was a hell of a place to fight a war....
