The Nine Emperor Gods Festival: Kow Ong Yah, (Cantonese: Kow Wong Yeh) is a Chinese festival to celebrate the return from heaven to earth of the Nine Emperor spirits, who are worshipped as one deity known as Ma Zu, Ma Tzu or Tian Hou, literally means Queen of Heaven who represent health, wealth and prosperity. The festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth moon in the Chinese lunar calendar. This is a shot of one of the Chinese Opera performer putting on her make up for a performance during the festival.
