Pretty Petals

Life

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I deliberately used this picture as an illustration to describe what I thought of life i.e like a piece of a durian fruit. As previously described in my earlier posting of the Durian - King of the Fruits, I mentioned that the smell is `hellish' but the taste is 'heavenly'. To me it makes a perfect description of life being bitter-sweet. In our journey we will face struggles but they only make us become stronger person. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Note: I suppose some can see my point of view if you have some experience tasting/smelling the Durian. While some, would interpret `life' in a different form, perhaps a bed of roses - looks pretty but the stems are filled with thorns.

It was explained to us as " Tastes like Heaven ~ Smells Like Hell " Right on both counts !!

Great shot - espescially if one has had the courage to try the fruit. A friend of mine who was born in Malaysia told me about them. I was intrigued, and so he brought one to my house. I tried it, and it's intresting - it doesn't taste as good as I expected, but didn't smell as bad as I expected either. Guess that says as much about preconception as it does about durian. Love your photo and words. Voted

Wonderful capture of this interesting fruit. Seems in Chinatown they are coated and there's little of any smell. I know it is an acquired taste as I saw this chef on cable TV who travels all over the world eating exotic foods. In this show in Asia he's eaten bats, snakes, insects with ease. But he choked on the Durian.! V.

Geez Flow, and I always have as a rule no matter how hard life gets its always important to mentally and emotionally remain smelling like roses even if you must fence off those
thorns. No time for bitterness...lol. V

Glad to see your wonderful picture and share your feeling again, Tricia! Many targets in our life are just like durian - smell hellish before a try but taste heavenly when you achieve it. This is the beautiful of our life.

Thing is... the light at the end of the tunel is often.... an incoming train !
Me, I like oranges, looks good, tastes good, smells good and when life gives you oranges... make marmelade ! But, I deeply respect your point of view Tricia, if you see Durians... make Durian jam with it.
Great everyday shot in a market.
