The Other Side

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution 62/139 in which it has declared 2nd April as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD). April is also the Autism Awareness Month. The resolution was made to draw the world's attention to this neurological disorder that has affected many lives. Spread the word and raise the level of awareness on this epidemic.
I hereby dedicate this gallery to all those innocent children/people who suffer from this incurable disorder and hope to bring awareness to the public about Autism.

Don't Shut Me Out...

Just because.......I have Autism

......I laugh out loud and sometimes I can't help it

I can be oblivious to how I am behaving (lacking empathy skills), which may irritate you.

......I don't want to look you in the eye

I know it seems rude but it really hurts when I have to look at you. But with patience, I might actually try to look at you...:D

.....I may have special abilities in music, art, memory or manual dexterity

I can be a genuius at some things and don't know how I did it.

NB: drawing done by a 3-4 year old with poor fine motor skills.

I like to look at children's drawing as you can study a lot about their imagination, thoughts and feelings and sometimes even their cognitive development.

....I don't know how to play with other children

I often keep to myself because I have difficulty relating to you.

I might appear rude and always by myself but that doesn't mean I don't like you.

.....I scream and shout when there are changes in my routine

I get confused and frightened when you don't tell me of changes in advance.

Nb: Using visual cards help me to understand and predict what is happening in my life.

....I am scared of loud noises

My sense of hearing is sometimes distorted. What is normal to you may frighten me.

.....I like to watch things spin or line my toys in a row

I find comfort seeing things repeat itself over and over again.
