In 1862 the Lord Mayor of London visited Oxford and this little book, a slim and elegant volume, was published about the visit.

It's a good example of the kind of finishing work that the handle letters from yesterday's PAD would have been used for, although in this case, the letters and tools would have been considerably smaller.

A lot of work stuff this week...I'll have to find something different for Sunday when I have the day off.

This is truly amazing! It's hard to imagine the time and craftsmanship that went into this. Thanks for keeping this lost art alive. I'd be afraid to crack such a book open! And, again, lovely lighting and mood in the photo.
