Shown is the reverse of this coin depicting the S.S. Great Britain, which on her last journey in 1886 ran aground on the Falklands during a violent storm. She remained there until finally able to return to Great Britain in 1970. Passengers are visible lining the deck rails.
This is a twenty-five pound silver commemorative weighing 150 grams, or just shy of five troy ounces. It is 65mm in diameter. The obverse bears one of the first impressions of the "new" bust of Queen Elizabeth II, approved for use on January 1, 1985. The Royal Mint was justly very proud of this coin, of which only 20,000 were issued.
