This is the great bronze MGM Lion, today dominating and pretty much owning the Strip. In 2000 Kirk Kerkorian's Tracinda corporation, which then majority-owned just the MGM and small pieces of other properties, exploited weakness in Steve Wynn's Mirage stock to pick up that huge block of princely properties: Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio and Golden Nugget, to mention just some. A few years later, dissent in the Circus ranks allowed him to do the same to Circus Circus Properties: among them Excalibur, Circus Circus, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and many others. After the dust cleared, the renamed MGM-Mirage dominated an immense portfolio over a three-mile stretch of Las Vegas Strip real estate.
