See that wall of rocks and boulders? That's what Newton Creek did when it flooded, twice in two years, about six or seven years ago (don't remember exactly, maybe even longer ago). And that's raging Newton Creek at the bottom of the picture. This is early in the morning and by evening when I came back, it had three times as much water in it, meltoff from Newton-Clark Glacier.
The contrast in this scene was outrageous, and I added a hefty dose of the Shadows and Highlight Photoshop control so you could even see the boulders. It ruined the picture from a photographic point of view, but I wanted you to see the rock wall that Mother Nature built. Without using this Photoshop control, all you would have seen was black.
