This is the first floor of our townhouse in downtown Manhattan.
The front room, which we call the Megaron after the meeting place of Homeric heroes, is part of the original house built in 1820.
The rear part, which we call the atelier, was built in 1954 when the first floor became a diner.
After we bought the building in 1984 there were a Mexican restaurant, Southwestern restaurant, and then a French restaurant that Zagat's designated as the most romantic in NYC.

We gutted the place entirely and discovered there were many windows in the back that were covered up and/or sealed. When we restored them, the room was flooded with light from the south, east and west.
