Alpine IVA-W205 Double Din Head Unit Install

Installing this double DIN in a 1.5 DIN car was a little challenging. While many people on different forums chimed in and confirmed the ability to do so, little hands-on info around. For starters, the unit's install sleeve is a full 2 DIN and will not fit. The Dash opening is about 1/8" too narrow to let the screen pass but can easily be filed down. Additionally, once you remove the front dash plate, there is NO place to secure the unit to. There is a center slide on which the factory unit rests but neither left nor right of the opening is there any metal. On the plus side, there is PLENTY of space below, left, and right of the unit to pack the wires and interfaces. To the rescue is an install kit from American International, part# FMK-522. This has an ingenious piece of metal that attaches to the rear of the unit and slides over the factory slide. Two plastic pieces attach to each side and provide an anchor for the front bezel which nicely covers both sides and is flinter thin on top and bottom to make a perfect "factory-look" fit.

Even with the top and bottom lip completely sanded away, it's an incredibly tight fit. Check the top before final install !
