The Chinese government spent about one billion Chinese Yuan in renovating and restorating West Street. Unlike the people on the East Street, the villagers here were forced to move out and move into apartment buildings so the street can be preserved from further deteriation. This section was opened in January 2007. Other than some museums, a few large buildings are converted into hotels and restaurants with AC and modern lightings. The attraction is mainly for the night time when the entire street is lit up.
