Santiago

Santiago is the capitol of Chile, with 5 million population or 1/3 of the entire country. It was our transit city on our way in and we had 10 hours layover on our way out. Too short to go anywhere else, we checked our luggage at a storage (US$5/luggage, we had five pieces) at the airport and headed to downtown.

Unlike other cities/towns we visited so far, Santiago like all big cities was a lot noisier with more traffic on big wide streets, people were aggressive, Rio Mapocho running across the city was muddy and the pollution was serious. A security guard through body language warned us to safeguard our cameras and bags when we wandered around. This was also one the few places we saw franchises such McDonald's and Burger King's.
