The Amazing Patagonia
Located in southern Chile and Argentina, Patagonia is a magnificent land of myths, mystery, and imagination. The land is sparsely populated, its people gracious. The size of Texas and California combined, Mother Nature sets the rules. Rugged landscapes are punctuated by areas of stunning beauty. Trees bend to the winds. Forceful glaciers move slowly down mountains while crystal clear rivers race down. Lakes come in remarkable greens, blues and grays. Fjords rise from the ocean not far from where volcanoes continue to rumble. Even powerful earthquakes are part of Patagonia. Wildlife is plentiful. Above are birds of prey like the Andean condor and the carancho. Black-necked swans and shy Chilean flamingos are a common sight while penguins add their own special charm. Rheas and guanacos wander the landscape, and of course, foxes trot. Dirt roads are the norm, though larger cities have paved roads and even an occasional two-lane highway. Fishing is important as an industry and for tourism. Tasty meats are grilled in an asado and European-style chocolate shops frequent Bariloche. While people impact the land, Patagonia remains untamed and unspoiled. From curious bridges to unusual flora, Patagonia is a world apart.
