The multi-country driving tour in May 2005 took us to several big cities and small towns, focusing on old town squares, castles and churches. However, we never overlooked many other elements each country had to offer that made the trip even more memorable: the rolling green hills and winding roads in the countryside of Austria; the friendly and English speaking Slovenian youngsters; the flavorful gelatos in Zagreb; the concert at the International Jazz Festival in Budapest; the peasant theme and authentic Polish food at Chlopskie Jadło in Krakow; the evening cobalt blue sky in Warsaw; the moving Holocaust memorial at Auschwitz; the extensive archeological collections from Egypt and Turkey in Berlin; and the whimsical Astronomical Clock at the old town square in Prague; the large selection of sausages, smoked fish, black and red currants not commonly seen in the U.S. This year’s calendar is a medley of a fraction of the sights and sounds we experienced.
