Posizione Eidelweiss was a fortified Austrian position in WWI to prevent the Italians from advancing through Valparola Pass. The Austrians lost, thus the Dolomite area is part of Italy, but many of its' inhabitants are Austrian at heart. The man with the basket on his back is a stonemason, carrying rocks that he will use to upgrade a stone building on the restored site.
