Lake Texoma Eagle Nest March 24th 2007

Something has really changed. I was expecting to see some Eaglets this weekend as the incubation period should be over. There maybe an Eaglet or two, see photos, but the big CHANGE was that there is a NEW MALE. If you look at the photos you will see that this male is still in his younger plumage as he has brown in his bill and head/tail feathers. I noticed that he is much more skittish when you attempt to approach. Not sure what is going on. The female did stay by the nest most of the time and then took off to catch a fish. She did not return with the fish however and ate about a half mile away. I did not see them return to the nest. You will also see the pictures of the male bringing in a stick. He hovered over the nest and then aborted and landed on a nearby tree. I never saw him bring the stick to the nest. There was also some pine which is sometimes brought to the nest, some think to keep the Eaglets warm but it is not known why. Stay tuned.
