The Santa Maria Free-Mo Modular Layout / RPM meet

Free-Mo was back in action in early 2004 at the Santa Maria Mall (Santa Maria is just south of San Luis Obispo, CA) for the weekend of February 21st and 22nd. Three distinct Free-Mo groups with their HO modules met in the Central California Coast to combine to make one impressive layout in a vacant mall store space.

In partnering up with the Santa Maria RR Museum, the layout along with a RPM prototype modelers meet was open to the general public with an estimated 3,000 people visiting over the weekend. Lots of train crazy kids mixed in with serious hardcore modelers. Track warrant dispatch sessions were held on Saturday with operators with radios taking down and repeating back real track warrants. Run chief/event organizer Chris Palomarez even provided real printed-up timetables that corresponded with the assembled module line-up to make the dispatch sessions a breeze.

Big thanks to "Run Chief" Chris P. for organizing the event, thanks to all of the Free-Mo'er's for making the long (and short) drive to S.M. to make the large layout a reality, thanks to the SMRRM group for helping sponsor the event, and biggest props to the Santa Maria Mall who gave us an awesome rental rate in providing us with adequate light and for letting us stay by the layout late into the night after the open mall hours! Looking forward to next year!

I appreciate these meet coverages esp since I moved from the west coast to Florida. Would it possible to make the images viewable in a "slide show" fashion?

Ryan, A very nice job. Only one comment though. I suggest either positioning columns of images closer together or only using 3 collumns. This will make it easier for people to view when using monitors with lower resolutions (800 x 600) Keep up the good work. It's always inspirational to see what you guys get up to at these Freemo meets. Shaun Cape Town South Africa
