Amtrak's New Oakland Diesel/Servicing Facility

A gallery of construction shots and eventually finished shots of the new Oakland Amtrak diesel and maintenance facility. The site is set to open either late 2004 or for sure early 2005. Check back for updates as this project is finished and Amtrak moves in!

The site is located just across the Niles Sub Mainline from UP's West Oakland Yard (former SP yard). The spot it sits on today is a combination of former SP coach yard land (now mostly occupied by the newer I-880 freeway) and the former Oakland Terminal RR (OTR) yard and track leading to Union St. West Oakland street-running industries.

I also attended this function along with Estelle Shiroma, Bay Area Rider and member of the Amtrak Advisory Board, Robert Conheim of the Auburn CC Riders, Marilyn Sommerdorf of the Sacramento Railroad Museum.
