Civil War Earthworks - Fort Donelson
The walls of Fort Donelson, a typical earthern fortification, were formed in an irregular circle which enclosed about 15 acres. Confederate soldiers and slaves built the walls by piling dirt over an inner-structure of trees which had been cut down in the area. The fort itself never came under direct land attack, and Union infantry had penetrated only halfway beyond the outer defenses when the Confederates surrendered. Source:

From Wikipedia: The Battle of Fort Donelson was fought February 12–16, 1862, in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. The capture of the fort by Union forces opened the Cumberland River as an avenue of invasion of the South and elevated Brigadier General Ulysses S. Grant from an obscure and largely unproven leader to the rank of major general and the nickname "Unconditional Surrender" Grant.
I imageine they would have been considerably larger (taller and wider) than they are now.

Bison
This is at Land Between the Lakes, which borders the Kentucky, Tennessee border. The Elk and Bison Prairie opened in 1996. It is a 700-acre restoration of native prairie habitiat that existed 200 years ago, when bison and elk roamed freely as far east as Tennessee. Had to take this thru a fence, and didn't have alot of time, so not very good, but interesting.
LBL has the largest publicly owned bison herd east of the Mississippee River.

Iron Furnace
This is an old Iron Furnace. This part of Tennessee was a primary iron production center during the mid 19th century. I like the flowers that are growing atop. I'll post a tourist photo of the furnace later when I have time. it is really very nice. The Foresty people oversee this area.

Downtown - Paris, Tennessee
This is downtown Paris. To the right, out of sight is the courthouse. Southern courthouses are usually the center of town with a four square around. I like these Italian looking buildings in the middle of this block. Where I live, we had alot of Italian tile layers arrive back then, so I'm not sure what the history is here.
Oh I forgot to say...the plant on the left belongs to the coffee'bookstore owned by Cherry Jones' dad. A broadway actress my coworker likes.

walk, don't walk.
This is the old hardware store in Paris. These wheelbarrows were lined up along the side of the building. Cropped it a little, but that was all.
