Rear View of Hummingbird Moth

North of Zurich - Switzerland

The Hummingbird Hawk-Moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) is a moth belonging to
the family of Sphinx Moths (Sphingidae). This family is familiarly known as
the Hummingbird moths. The flight of all Sphinx moths is similar to the
flight of true Hummingbirds. The Hummingbird Hawk-Moths also drinks nectar
in flight like a Hummingbird. It changes position very rapidly
when flying from one flower to an other. 75 to 85 wing beats per second.

Une photo exceptionnelle quand on sait que ce petit papillon bouge tout le temps. Une grande qualité d'image. Je l'adore.

I saw one of these in my garden in Hedon, East Yorkshire in July 2005.

I saw one of these for the first time the other day, they are very rare visitors to our part of the UK, thanks for the information. Your picture is much better than mine, but I could not get close enough to get such good detail. http://www.pbase.com/johnnyjag/image/45018160
