St. Peter's started as a mission serving the Cowican Indians in Quamichan in 1864. In 1867, the Mission Chapel of St. Peter was completed at Quamichan. By 1876 a larger wooden framed Church of St. Peter was built on the site of the original log church, as English settlers mover into the area in the new self governing colony of British Columbia. This church we see today was consecrated on June 14, 1877. The history of the pioneers is told on the tombstones in the heritage graveyard. St Peter's remains in active service for the community.
