About as close as I would like to get. While checking out the very end of the herring fishery at the French Creek marina, Vancouver Island, someone asked if I would like to stand on their boat to get a closer shot. Well heck yes, and in the twenty minutes or so waiting for a good shot, this one swam right up to me, within 10 feet or so. I was four feet off the water and right above this sea lion when it rolled on it's side and presented itself just like a model. I wish the other animals would be so co-operative. :O)
