Downy or Hairy Woodpecker

Southern Vancouver Island

Many people confuse the Downy Woodpecker with the Hairy Woodpecker, so one must look at size of the bird and the bill to determine which one is which. The Hairy Woodpecker has a thicker bill, longer or same length as head. It's a hard call, so I'm leaving this as a uncertain identification...input from experts would be appreciated.

Great shot dad, the look in his eye makes him look like he is thinking and wondering which one he is too. :0) V
