Excuse me.....

Southern Vancouver Island

A bird with an attitude isn't all that unusual, so this one wasn't too much of a surprise when, after he heard the first shutter snap, he turned and gave me a look that said, "Hmmmm...you need to get lost buddy!" Northern Flicker facts: The Northern Flicker is commonly found on the ground where it will run a few steps and stop, run a few steps and stop, until it finds an anthill. Ants are their most important source of food. One flicker's stomach was found to contain more than 5000 ants. It also eats a variety of other insects and wild fruit, especially wild cherries, dogwood, sumac and poison ivy. ~ Nature Mapping, University of Washington

It's a great shot. I always think about what the world would be like with no birds to keep the insects down ....

Nice light on this flying ant eater.
I've also seen them take a bite out of sweet persimmons.
