Northern Shrike

Vancouver Island

The is the first one of these birds that we've spotted and thanks to our network of birding friends for helping us identify it. We'll keep our eyes open to see if we can spot it again and get a few more shots. Northern Shrike facts: The Northern Shrike is classified as a predatory songbird. It feeds on small birds, mammals, and insects, sometimes impaling them on spines or barbed wire fences.

A magnificent capture of this lovely bird! Looks as though it has a hawk-like beak. V.
