Black Swan Cygnet

Southern Vancouver Island

We finally saw the cygnets again on a return visit to the pond of the Black Swans. They roam around the area now, away from the pond, and this is the first we've seen them for a few weeks. This cygnet is close to two months old and both parents continue to watch closely over their young (the cob was right there as soon as we came near). The parents will continue to tend the young for nine months to a year before they fledge. Black Swan facts: The global population of Black Swans is estimated to be in the region of 500,000 individuals.
