This is a favourite heron perch and we have seen as many as four Great Blue Herons resting on it, presumably enjoying the evening sun before returning to their nesting area. Heron facts: While the Great Blue Heron breeds in all Canadian provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador, the only place it winters over in Canada is on the British Columbia coast and in parts of the Maritime provinces. Most herons move south for the winter, and banded birds from Canada have been found in Mexico, Honduras, and Cuba.
