December 2009

Its December! The end of the year already! Seems like it flew by so so fast. In the Northern
Hemisphere, many birds have gone to warmer climates, however on Vancouver Island the eagles
have returned and the sea lions are here in force, both back for their share of the salmon
runs. Many species of ducks and birds winter over on the island or stop by along their
migration route. The swans have just started to appear, the goldeneys and northern pintails
are everywhere. For the photographer December is often a month of opportunities for wonderful
shots of scenery and widlife, accompanied by the challenges of difficult lighting and soggy
weather conditions. We can only hope for sunny weather and good lighting to get out and take
advantage of all the opportunities!
