These are photos from a brief walk to the Slate Peak Lookout in North Central Washingtion in October 2002. The army blew the top off of this mountain to set up a lookout or radar or radio facility of some sort during the Cold War. It later became, or returned to being a fire lookout although it is not staffed except in emergencies as far as I know. You get some nice views from the summit of all of the surrounding Pasayten peaks and some nice larches and meadows. This was in autumn so you see a lot of dried out brownish colors and very little snow as it was all melted but with little to no new snow. The photos:
