I took this trip in early October 2005 hoping to hit the larches at their peak in Headlight Basin. The larch were in form but the skies were not as dark gray skies eventually gave way to freezing rain and then to some sort of rain/sleet/hail combo which left me soaked and with my camera in my pack. The pictures are equally drab but I let them stand rather than tinkering with them in Photoshop as they accurately reflect the lifeless lighting of the day. What follows are the few shots I got in before the deluge:
This is a beautiful area. It's unfortunate that you didn't get clear skies. I visited this area October 10, 2006 and enjoyed clear, sunny weather. I just posted a few photos. Unfortunately, I didn't see any deer or goats. I may have been a few days early for the peak golden glow of the larches, but most were turning gold.
