Le Grand Palais de Paris.

The stunning Grand Palais is set to reopen after major structural repairs and the recent renovations lasted 12 years.

With its giant glass cupola that stands out over the low Paris skyline, the Grand Palais is one of the City of Light's most visible landmarks, located between the elegant Champs-Elysees Avenue and the River Seine.

Built for the 1900 World's Fair (while the Eiffel tower was built Years: 1887-1889), the Grand Palais soon showed signs of structural vulnerability. A 1910 flood of the Seine damaged the foundations, and subsequent changes in Paris' water table further undermined stability. In 1993, a glass panel fell 148 feet from the dome. Although no one was injured, authorities had to close the central hall.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Revolution. It was not built for the World's Fair of 1900.

Eric - have you been to the newly opened Petit Palais? It is absolutely superb and you can make wonderful panorama pictures of the whole structure. Not as dazzling as the Grand Palais but not bad! Good luck and once again I vote for you! Jan

Superbe cette galerie - j'ai eu la chance également de voir ce Grand Palais et d'en faire profiter un membre de ma famille de passage sur Paris. Un moment extraordinaire mais que nous n'avons pas immortalisé hélas par une photo car nous ne pensions pas pouvoir y rentrer derrière cette foule. Vivement que l'on y retourne !!!! et encore merci

Merci pour ces photos superbes. De passage à Paris j'ai eu la chance de voir le Grand Palais de jour et de nuit, mais je n'avais pas mon appareil photos à mon grand désespoir. Ce site me permet de retrouver ce que je n'avais pu immortaliser. Merci encore
