" The Steel Girder Cross of the Twin Towers " in front of St. Peter’s
The cross was discovered by firefighters in the rubble of the Twin Towers. During the clean up, it had become a refuge for the workers, and a safe place for a city deeply traumatized by such an incomprehensible tragedy. It had become a place where men could go to find peace in the midst of the senseless maelstrom that surrounded them.

Freedom Tower Construction Finally Begins
November 18, was the start of construction on Freedom Tower. A mere nine years after the Twin Towers were destroyed.
The bronze Sphere by sculptor Fritz Koenig, which stood in the fountain of the World Trade Center plaza, was pulled from underneath the collapsed towers. The Sphere is now in Battery Park as a temporary memorial.

In Memoriam: American American Express Employees Lost On 09/11/01
Eleven Tears: About the Memorial
Eleven silver strands of light
Eleven facets of a gleaming hearts
Eleven tears, forever falling, on
Eleven names in a tranquil pool.
Eleven Tears, conceived by lower manhattan landscape architect Kent Smith, "unites sky and ground, heaven and earth" and is inspired by natural elements Water, Light, granite and quarts crystal form a dynamic sculptural fountain that is abstract from a distance but intensely personal up close. Within view of the site where the Twin Towers once stood, the Memorial invites reflection on eleven individuals whose lives were closely linked.
Eleven drops of water - one tear for each person- fall in random intervals into an 11- sided black granite pool inscribed with remembrances of each person.
They were eleven colleagues who worked together as American Express travel counselors to marsh & McLennan on the 94th floor of One World Trade Center. They were also friends who shared laughter, challenges, encouragement and support. And, like so many mornings side by side on the mornings before, they were working side by side on the morning of September 11, 2001. Now they are eternally linked in a unique memorial, a special tribute that the American Express Company commissioned in their memory.
