Blue Moon...
...that's what they call it when you have two full moons in the same month. Here the blue moon forms a diagonal line across the shoulder of Rainier to the Bremerton ferry.

Big Mountain, Small Boat
The Bremerton Ferry shrinks beneath the colossus of Mt. Rainier on a balmy May evening. If you zoom in, you can see that the picture is not entirely clear, but not bad for hand-held at the 35mm equivalent of 300m.

Compartmentalizing, Part 4
I could ride these trains all day long and take pictures of people in their compartments. This man is playing a game in some contraption that appears to be a cosmetics case. Nice tie, too! Not sure about the man on his left, who looks like he just pulled an all-nighter...

Compartmentalizing, Part 1
I'm wondering whatever happened to the "big screen"? I remember everyone on the plane laughing at the same joke, drawing breath at the same scarey scene...now we are all in our own little worlds, disconnected from each other. The world may be flat, but it is entirely compartmentalized as well...

Compartmentalizing, part 2
The Japanese have been compartmentalizing for a long time. This is partly because theirs is such a crowded country, so it is necessary for people to give each other personal space, even if they are pressed up against each other. Here, this man checks for messages while listening to music, both from his cell phone, while waiting for the train.

Compartmentalizing, part 3
Here is another way to compartmentalize. I'm amazed at the ability of subway sleepers to do their thing without leaning on, or drooling over, each other. At least they get to sit down!

Another hotel room view
Visiting Tokyo on business is not always a bad thing. Especially during the two-week period each spring when the cherry trees bloom.

"New" Sheriden
The New Sheriden Hotel & Saloon is over 100 years old, and replaced the "old" one that burned down in the late 1800's.

Swiss Alps?
Nope. Top of Lift 9 at Telluride. What you're looking at is Bear Creek, a collection of 13,000 ft peaks that drop down into a beautiful basin that eventually empties out into the town of Telluride. If you hike up to the top of the peak on the left, the ski down is nearly a vertical mile. Guiseppe's, at nearly 12,000ft is, as far as I know, the highest restaurant in the country.

Just another western town
Okay, Aspen and Sun Valley are truly anemic when compared to the view from Telluride's main street. How many other Rocky Mountain towns shoot down avalanches from Main Street with a Howitzer gun? And speaking of shooting, Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank here. It's the yellow building about half way down on the left. Also speaking of shooting, there's a great film festival at the end of the summer. I attended the first one in 1974, when I worked in the mine here.

Surf's Up!
Well, sort of. No need to paddle out against the waves, at least...
