Troy Hill has the look and feel of an old European village. It sits on a plateau above the city and is dominated by brick and frame row houses, well preserved single family houses and a spectacular view of the city. Troy Hill offers three churches, a school, social organizations, stores, and restaurants. It is also home to the Western Pennsylvania Firefighters Memorial.
Thank you for posting the pictures of Troy Hill. My Mother's [ b 1923 ] family lived on Harpster and Lowrie St. Some relatives still live there. I bought the book "Women of Troy Hill", I love it, just a joy. I can't recall seeing Troy Hill, but knew the streets very well that were mention in this book due to the stories my Mother would tell us. In the book [ written by Clara Ansberry ] it was my Gfather John Richards [ 1901-1924 ] not mention by name but about that terrible day 18 Jan. 1924, that he was killed when crossing the Herrs Island bridge. I am always on line trying to learn more of Troy Hill and of my GF.

My grandmother's family, the Petry, lived on Lowrie Street, and I remember going back to vist as a child growing up in Sharon. Jabob was a dentist who also made dentures until he died in 1934. Grossie, as we called her, lived there until she moved to Sharon with my grandmother. I have so many memories!

My mother grew up on Lowrie street 1918-1940. She knew most of the "Women of Troy Hill". I grew up there too 1942-1952. Holy Name School and North Catholic High School. I've lived in California for 35 years now. These pictures bring back so many good memories.

I have been reading a book "The Women of Troy Hill" by Clare Ansberry. Having grown up in Charleroi, Pa. & living out here in Kansas for 45 years, this brought back such memories of life back East years ago. I appreciated seeing the pictures & being able to picture these in my mind as I read the book. Wonderful photography, thank you!!! Marilyn in Kansas
