There's a very good website: bugguide.net that is run by the Iowa State University of Entomology. You can download your photo to ID Request. Then, both amateurs and experts will post comments on what it is, or what may be. Many of the amateurs are VERY experienced and I think it's neat that experts in this field contribute as well. It is free. I've found it to be a knowledgeable, good humored and kind community. Photos of dead bugs are not allowed! Also, no harm must be done to an insect or spider in order to take its picture - I REALLY like that. You can create a free Account of your own and post your insect and spider photos for the many bug-fans and photographers that visit
this site to enjoy! Marcia pbase.com/marcia I'm relatively new to PBase and thank you and Slug for creating and maintaining it - it's GREAT!!!!

Yes it is a tussock caterpillar, you can tell by the four distinct "tussocks" on its back.
