This memorial to fallen German soldiers of World War I is shaped to resemble a coffin borne by pallbearers. This memorial is a powerful symbol of a perevalent German sentiment that the German soldier was (a) betayed, and/or (b) stabbed in the back in 1918, yet will rise again. This sentiment (myth?) was a powerful force in the rise of National Socialism in the 1920s.
