Archimedes and the Appenine Mountains

The smooth-floored crater at upper left is Archimedes and is 80 kilometers wide. The broad rugged mountains are the Appenines, and the deeply notched area in the mountain range at the top of the image is the landing area of Apollo 15. Hadley Rille, the canyon about 2 kilometers wide which the Apollo astronauts explored, is faintly visible near the landing area. See the next photo for a pinpoint location of the Apollo landing spot. This photo was taken with a Nikon D80, a 16mm Brandon eyepiece and the 20-inch Panarusky reflector at the Jim and Gwen Plunkett Observatory at Harrington Beach State Park in Lake Church, Wisconsin.

Very fine images Ernie, nice work ! You shot a few of my favorite lunar areas.
I have also like Clavius also, and a few other sites.
Regards. T.
