Currently, official discs need to be 175 grams. The weight of the disc will be written in raised letters (often somewhat difficult to read) along with other text in a ring around the printed part of the frisbee. Most discs that are used are made by Discraft, although some wham-os (the holder of the Frisbee label) are still used. White is the color used for competition, although pick-up and casual play may sometimes see other colors. Why white discs? White discs can be seen in most conditions. White discs are also fairly uniform in terms of texture, rigidity, etc. Some discs of colour soften in warm sunlight. UV discs also often have a different "feel." Why discraft and not wham-o? The discraft design is slightly different. It seems to feel better in most ultimate players' hands, although this is probably because of the prevelance of discrafts. There may be some differences in flight. This image borrowed from the disc shop All images are © bil elsinger. Please ask before using.
