You can acknowledge a score in any way that you wish as long as you've confirmed that you've scored. This is limited by your imagination. The rules do not require any specific physical act. What not to do. For the sake of all that is aesthetically pleasing in the world, the fact that acknowledging a goal does not require ground checking the disc, as shown in the above picture, should be remembered. A ground check is only required when play is initiated, not completed. Newbies have more of a tendancy to ground check a score. Remember that. Newbies. (Hey, newbies are cool, in their own way, and ultimate would be nothing without them. Welcome to ultimate, folks!) Think about the act required to ground-check the disc. Bending over is normally required. Do you really want to perform the act of bending over after you've scored? No, you want to stand up straight. Be proud of what you've done. Also any action that makes it seem like the scorer does not realize that they are in the endzone should be avoided, as this would be confusing to the other players, and may subject that scorer to the "failed to acknowledge score and threw the disc away" turnover should they drop the disc, or do anything that results in what looks to be a turnover. Finally, spiking the disc with intentional disregard for either the disc's health, or that of the opponent is somewhat discouraged. Also somewhat lame: ripping off your shirt after you score (unless you are a guy, AND you have a sports bra on, then it's funny. But only once. That's once in our lifetimes, not once a year). Throwing the disc really high in the air is currently in vogue. The clap catch quick release was very popular a few years ago. |
