Recently I was limited to how far I could walk due to surgery on my right foot. My husband took me out to Pelican on Lake Macquarie for a break from being cooped up indoors. I found a spot near the water, where a clutch of four baby Welcome Swallows were perched on a branch. They were only approx a foot (30cm) above the sand, so obviously there were no predators around. The mother worked hard at finding food for them, and they stayed on the branch knowing she would return. She seemed to know which one she had fed on each trip, something I guess is natural to most mothers. It was a pleasure to watch them and they were not at all worried by my presence, though they were very demanding as you can see by the shots!!
