Spoon Rocks is to the southeast of Caves Beach. Caves Beach derives its name from sea caves in the headland at the southern end of the beach. The beach runs for just 300 m south from the sandy foreland to the southern cave-rocks. The Swansea-Caves SLSC was founded in 1929. Though Caves Beach faces the southeast it is afforded a moderate degree of wave protection by reefs in the centre and north and Spoon Rocks. Wallarah Peninsula Walk starts at Caves Beach and travels south along the coastline to Pinny Beach. The view back along the coastline is spectacular. The dead birds along the beach are Mutton Birds, which have died from exhaustion from flying 11,500 kms in their migration flight. Recent bushfires had burnt out huge areas on the headland and across to Pinny Beach.
