The East-End of Newcastle is the oldest area of the city, and in the last few decadess has attracted a great deal of restoration to some of the most interesting dwellings. Although many landmarks have gone, there is still a feel of early settlement. It's a pleasure to stroll along the streets and back lanes. It is surprising to observe how well restored many of the buildings are... the National Trust being instrumental in preserving the ambience of their historical value.
