It has been a fine year for the Cattails. They are thick and growing like weeds. If you are ever lost and hungry just look for a cattail as they are editable especially the rhizomes. It is surprising the many uses of this plant, paper to life vest to biofuel not to mention lovely photos.

In the early spring, when the sun warms up the ground just a little this perennial will start popping out on the forest floor.While there is plenty of white, yellow and green the plant is named for the color of the roots. As you can see the Bloodroot flower is very pretty and does stand out.

Summer is ending as the ripening of the Highbush Cranberry denotes. The fruits which are sour and rich in vitamin C, can be eaten raw or cooked into a sauce to serve with meat. The great thing for me about this plant is I know where to find birds eating a meal.

You would think that anything with such a deep color of purple would be in high demand but no. It might have something to do with the thorns on the plant but it doesn't to hurt the Rose. Maybe it has something to do with the small size of the flower, but there is Baby's Breath that seems to be okay. Maybe it is just because it seems it can grow anywhere without any help. Oh well, it is pretty.
