Every year since 2004 the town of Deventer organises the two-day Dickens festival in the weekend before Christmas. Part of the old town is cordoned off for this occasion and people dressed up as characters of Dickens' tales walk around playing scenes from the stories.
The festival is extremely well organised. All "actors" - young and old - and the local people make the festival a huge success: this year it attracted no less than 120.000 visitors from the Netherlands and abroad.
