Our research indicates the following, although some facts have not been proven. We believe that James Latouche McDonagh and Jemima Agnes Alves came to Australia as Bounty Immigrants on the "Alan Ker" which sailed from Glasgow and arrived in Australia in November 1841. James was listed as James Donughy (a variation of McDonagh), and Jemima as Johanna Alves, she a teenager, he in his early twenties.

We have not been able to find a marriage certificate, but the date has been cited on a death certificate as October 1845.

Jemima Agnes Alves was born in Cupar, Fifeshire, Scotland on 8th March 1827 and died in hospital in Sandhurst (Victoria) on 23rd June 1865 as a result of complications from childbirth. Her parents, James Alves and Anne Cives were married in Fifeshire on May 15th 1814.

James Latouche McDonagh was born about 1818 in Ireland, and died as James Latouche in Maryborough Hospital from phthisis on 8th June 1867.

Jemima and James had 5 children - Ann/Annie 1852-1898, Oswald Henry 1855-1933, Emma 1857-1919, Katherine 1860-1947 and Agnes Jane who was born in 1865 and lived for a month.

I am fortunate to own some wonderful old photographs , and even more fortunate to have caught up with a diligent family history researcher, cousin and friend, Marg Lacey, who has instigated this project and supplied most of the images.
