Ann, you asked so many questions that I am completely lost and likely won't be able to answer all of them; The round thing on the box is oversized ring for tapping tobacco in to the smoking pipe. Pen is to dig out ashes from smoking pipe. For thing on the left, please, refer to Michael Weinberg's explanation... Now, how well all this blends together... no idea, but I didn't live in those times either....

I like this!.....despite the loose connection to the subject matter of this gallery i.e. traveller, & I suppose then the pipes etc in the background belong somewhere on a train. However it is certainly a piece of fine art, courtesy of your Nikon. I think the tool on left is a rather outsize cigar trimmer, so the cigars in the box must be rather fat ones. On the box on the right is, I think, a tobacco tamper. At first glance I thought the object behind was a horseshoe, but I see tobacco mentioned on it. Did this collection belong to a tobacconist who also moonlighted as a blacksmith, whose horse pulling his carriage shed a shoe, so he had to travel back to his workshop on one of those new fangled railways....? Now what did he need a pen for? And what is the round thing on the box? Such fun......OK must go now and take my pills!

Great shot Amigo. Such a beautiful clarity and colors along with excellent composition. This thingy on the left is a superb find. Great shot. Vote.

Ah, Frank... All Amma doing here is just pressin' a shutter button and enjoin' a moment, LOL... D300 saved my ass from a full marazmatique dispair, committin'ga a suicide and/or descending in to the valleys of Valhalla , LOL !
It's not me, but rather the camera performing so bloody well. Nonetheless, it's'the worst shot I've ever made with her so far, LOL ! The rest is just beyond description, LOL, simply spectacular...

"master of evil itself"! ...now there is a sobriquet I can easily relate to having a modicum of experience of that issue myself......but...while I I admit to being enthralled by the little monograph written by the illustrious Weinberg, I will simply add my praise to that of Mr Perez...excellent composition and huzzahs to the D300.....V :)

I hesitate to follow the articulate ramblings of Mr. Weinberg, however I would like to congratulate you for your recent acquisition of the Nikon D300. This photo clearly demonstrates it's amazing management of color and contrast. The details are vivid and sharp in even the darkest areas, while maintaining well balanced lighting and no sign of hot spots.
Nice work!

Indeed, amigo, you did remarkably well, no wonder, though... First they offer you pick up from god-knows-what-it-might-be Pandora sigars, and then after you've got something intriguing... They puzzle you then whether you should use oversized moyel gizmo or rather stick to McAlpin's tobaco guilotine slicer... Those days were really tough...

Hello Most Evil of Evil Ones. I am so humbled by your prophetic ability to foretell my appreciation of the elements within this inspired photo.... a photo shot with extreme skill, maximizing color quality in conjunction with superb, surreal composition. However having said all that, I am bit miffed as to what is considered the right and the left of this photo. When we say right, is it literally the right, or is it the right side of the view. In either case I find the elements right and left to be of extreme interest. On the left side of the view, there appears to be an ancient metallic tool that seems to have had some surgical application. Judging by its relative size and is circular fitting, it is my educated guess that this was the first of its kind, automatic circumcision tool for elephants. Of what use and value this tool could have had... I have no idea. But, to be honest, for this ancient looking artifact, I can not envision any alternative application. Now, as I view the photo on the bottom right, there is an object there that really strikes my fancy.... a "Pandora's Box" of cigars. What a great natural combination. Open that box and release all the evils of mankind. How appropriate is it that you, o evil one, master of evil itself, could place this object in this composition? And further, to put cigars, in this mythological box, is the ultimate cynical device..... to equate the ultimate symbol of the evils of the world with cigars.... the ultimate Phallic symbols! It is as if to say, symbolically that all the evil in the world is predicated upon the releasing of the phalluses within this evil box... that it is the male sex and his prolific organ which is the cause of all the ills and evil in the world..... And now.... that super large circumcision device, with those large rusted blades, viewed on the left, has an added, special significance. O what an evil web you weave o ye master of the evil world. Oy Oy OY. Michael.
